Overview

Ross Epstein is the Managing Partner of the San Diego office of The Nath Law Group LLP. He is a legal advisor and provider of general counsel services to small and medium sized companies as well as to individual entrepreneurs primarily in high tech and life sciences. Mr. Epstein brings an unusual entrepreneurial perspective to the practice of law. He has a unique affinity for the entrepreneurial client due to his hands-on experience in business as a founder, President and CEO of BCH Communications. Mr. Epstein developed BCH Communications into a multi-million dollar telecommunications/internet business and also filled the in-house counsel role. This experience combined with his prior business litigation practice makes him uniquely qualified to advise and counsel growing companies.

Small to medium sized businesses require regular legal advice but most do not have the need or resources for full-time in-house counsel. Mr. Epstein provides timely, accurate, high quality general counsel services at an affordable cost and has become de facto general counsel for many of these clients. Strategic Agreements - Negotiating and drafting agreements ranging from mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, licensing, partnerships, shareholder agreements, leases, distribution agreements and vendor contracts;

Dispute Resolution - Resolving disputes in amicable and cost effective ways as well as pursuing formal litigation when necessary.

Trademarks and Copyrights - Registering copyrights and trademarks domestically and internationally as well as advising on infringement and licensing issues.

Professional Profile

In 2001, Mr. Epstein returned to the practice of law in San Diego after guiding his company in Europe through two rounds of financing, deploying a nationwide internet network in Poland and managing a 100 person company covering the largest eight metropolitan areas in Poland. Mr. Epstein founded the company in the Czech Republic after arriving in Prague in 1992. He expanded the business to Poland where he grew and developed it from an international reseller of telephony services into a Polish national Internet Telephony Service Provider/Internet Service Provider.

From 1988 until 1992, Mr. Epstein practiced business litigation with Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison in the areas of real estate, creditors' rights, landlord-tenant, securities, trademark and insurance coverage disputes. Representative clients have included the RTC, Wells Fargo Bank, Sammis Properties, LandGrant Development, The Tandy Corporation and Torrey Pines Bank.

Mr. Epstein obtained his Bachelors degree from Princeton University in 1983 and graduated from Boston University School of Law with honors in 1987. He received several honors and awards for academic achievement in law school and was a Note and Case Editor for the Boston University Law Review where he published a student note. He was the law clerk for The Honorable Howard B. Turrentine in the United States District Court for the Southern District of California in 1987-88.

Mr. Epstein is admitted to practice before the Bar in the State of California and the United States District Court for the Southern District of California. He is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, the Forum For Women Entrepreneurs and the San Diego Venture Group. He is Co-Chair of the Intellectual Property Special Interest Group of the San Diego Telecom Council, Chair of the Events Sub-Committee of the Intellectual Property Committee of Biocom San Diego, a member of the Technology Committees of both the San Diego Regional and Carlsbad Chambers of Commerce, Chair of the Speakers Committee of the San Diego Chapter of the Licensing Executives Society, a member of the San Diego Intellectual Property Lawyers Association and a member of the Steering Committee for the UCSD Connect Financial Forums. He participates as a panelist and mentor in the UCSD Connect Springboard Program.
