HAROLD L. NOVICK is Of Counsel to The Nath Law Group. Mr. Novick has extensive in-depth experience in all aspects of
intellectual property law including patents, trademarks, copyrights,
trade secrets, unfair competition and computer law.
Mr. Novick's areas
of technical expertise include computer hardware and software
systems, telegraphy and data communications systems, integrated
circuit manufacturing, naval engineering and marine propulsion,
nuclear power equipment, conveying and dispensing equipment, and
medical equipment. In each of these areas, Mr. Novick has advised
clients, drafted and prosecuted patent and trademark applications,
drafted and negotiated contracts and licenses and has actively
enforced or defended the scope of intellectual property protection
in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and federal courts.
Mr. Novick is a
member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association
(AIPLA), the Computer Law Association, the International Trademark
Association (INTA), and AIPPI. He is also a member of the D.C.
Computer Law Forum serving as President in 1991 and a Director from
1986 to 1992. In 1975, he built a model of the first personal
computer and began his career of lecturing and authoring papers in
many legal and technical areas with a particular focus on the
protection of computer software. Mr. Novick was a contributing
author in the third edition of "Computers & The Law;" was the
editor of and columnist for the "Software Legal Forum" which he
created for Creative Computing Magazine, and has been and continues
to be a popular national and international lecturer before both
technical and legal audiences. He is currently an adjunct Professor
of Law at Handong Intellectual Law School in Korea.
Mr. Novick
received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics from Miami University
(Ohio) in 1964 while on a full Naval ROTC scholarship, and a Juris
Doctor with Honors degree from the National Law Center, George
Washington University in 1972. As a Naval Officer, he completed the
18 month Naval Nuclear Power Education and Training School and
Submarine School being awarded the titles of Nuclear Engineering
Officer of the Watch and Qualified in Nuclear Submarines. Following
the Naval schools, Mr. Novick served three years aboard a nuclear
powered Fleet Ballistic Missile submarine in the engineering and
communication departments before leaving the Navy and entering law
school.
Mr. Novick is
admitted to practice before the Bars of the State of Maryland and
the District of Columbia, a
number of U.S. District Courts, the Court of Appeals for the Federal
Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Novick is
registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. |
