BURMAN
Y. “Bud” MATHIS, is
a patent attorney in the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Department of
The Nath Law Group. Mr. Mathis specializes in the areas of digital signal
processing, computer software and hardware, electronics, semiconductor
processes, communication protocols, digital and analog circuitry, and radio
frequency circuits.
Mr.
Mathis performs a wide range of patent-related services, including patent
preparation and prosecution for both domestic and foreign cases.
Mr. Mathis also renders infringement and validity opinions, provides
litigation support, and performs due diligence studies.
His legal services also include enforcement of patent rights,
licensing, and detailed patent portfolio analysis for litigation.
Before
joining The Nath Law Group, Mr. Mathis worked for several well-known and
successful patent and general-purpose firms in the Washington D.C. area
performing a wide range of services including patent preparation and
prosecution, opinion writing, litigation and performing due diligence
studies.
Prior
to practicing law, Mr. Mathis earned a Bachelor of Science degree for
Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and Math from Vanderbilt University in 1982
and a Master of Science for Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from the Johns
Hopkins University in 1993.
Mr. Mathis also conducted nearly
15 years of research as a design engineer/consultant for a number of
large and small companies including Boeing, Unisys, Comsat and Hughes
Network Systems and ECTel (an ECI company), as well as for NASA (Goddard
Space Flight Center) and the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (SDIO).
In
this capacity, Mr. Mathis designed a wide array of electronic and
electro-mechanical devices including guidance systems, target acquisition
and tracking systems, multi-spectral infrared seekers, aircraft avionics
systems, wireless communications modems and cellular communications systems.
Mr.
Mathis received his J.D. degree at The George Mason School of Law in
Arlington, Virginia in 1999, and is a member of the American Intellectual
Patent Law Association.
Mr.
Mathis is an active member of the U.S. Patent Bar, the Bar of the District
of Columbia Bar, the State Bar of Virginia and the bar of the U.S. District
Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
